The Game is back on tour and the crowds are responding across the Atlantic.
The Compton-bred rapper, whose hit album Doctor's Advocate dropped Nov. 14 and shot immediately to the top of the Billboard charts, began a much-awaited European tour last night in Manchester, England, and already has made a positive impression.
"Judging by the hoards outside The Apollo on Monday night desperately seeking a ticket, you'd think The Game was the keeper of the greatest show on earth," read the opening line in a three-star review of The Game's show in the local Manchester Evening News.
"But then, this is the sweetest-gig ticket hip-hop money can buy in spite of the fact the smooth-tongued West Coast rapper has only just released his second album ... produced by giants of the genre Scott Storch, Kanye West and will.i.am."
The review mentions that The Game proudly quoted his solid record-sales numbers "within the first few minutes on stage," then sparked the mood of the show by "jumping on the speakers" and "removing layers of clothes."
"This, the first date of The Game's European tour, is a coming-of-age gig," the paper continued. "Seduced by his gruff Tupac-tinged flow, the crowd chants along to the street anthem ‘It's Okay (One Blood),' the brilliant Compton and anti-law antidote, 'Remedy,' which is laced with Chuck D's sample, ‘Now they got me in a cell.'
"'Tributes to mentor Dr. Dre come often and there's no shortage of good hooks or vigorous rhythms, proving The Game's exuberant anthemic style reaches further than ‘West Side.'"
The Game's road show continues tonight in Dublin, Ireland, moves on to Glasgow, Scotland, on Wednesday, and hits London on Friday night, Dec. 8.
